Designer and Illustrator

As the Senior Graphic Designer for the photography publication Don’t Take Pictures Magazine, I was responsible for two 60-page printed issues each year. I add unique creativity to each publication’s articles and artist portfolios through dynamic typography and custom graphics. I maintain a consistent print identity through the technical aspects of layout design by utilizing grids and a solid typographic hierarchy to highlight each piece. As a Black artist, I am proud to work with a magazine highlighting a diverse pool of artists. Design as a means of making information accessible is among my top priorities.

Issue 15: The Fiction Issue

Issue 15 was focused on storytelling and its relationship to photography. Being able to create fun graphic elements while maintaining the consistency readers have come to know was a new challenge that I enjoyed overcoming.

Issue 14: The Explorers Issue

In this issue we tackled the challenges of showing exploration in many contexts. Here expressive typographic elements thrived with the variety of images. Propelling the reader through the issue like an explorer on a journey.

Issue 13: The Museum Issue

This issue was a great way for me to flex my design muscles and learn the versatility of print. I was able to get creative with the table of contents, for example, with a museum map.
